Qasim is an award-winning American filmmaker from Detroit who's had multiple films at Sundance. He's also my friend and former roommate for a short time when we were both living in Venice Beach.

In this broad-ranging discussion we talk about his unique upbringing–between Ann Arbor and Detroit, being raised with Muslim values and American pop culture–and how it taught him many of the lessons that he tries to convey to his children now.
